Is it any wonder stress is such a big problem in today's society?!

Stress is estimated to cost in the region of 3.7 billion pounds to business each year in the UK alone, accounts for more time taken off work than any other reason, and the costs to the individual can be huge:
  • Chronic illness, both physical and mental
  • Lowered self-esteem and confidence
  • Relationship issues
  • Reduced life satisfaction and expectancy...and the list goes on.

Of course we cannot eliminate stress from our lives, and indeed a certain amount of stress is important in terms of providing opportunities for growth and for mastering new challenges. But we do need to be able to manage it so that it doesn't become debilitating and end up ruining our lives.

The stress management that I advocate is very much present and future oriented;  the past is only relevant in terms of seeing how past events  may link with current issues. You would not be encouraged to dwell on past experiences, but rather encouraged and guided to work out practical solutions to your current problems.

My approach is also holistic, in the sense that it incorporates a variety of strategies or techniques depending on your individual needs. To get an idea of possible interventions please see my coaching page.

It is widely acknowledged that stress can be a factor in a large proportion of illnesses and chronic health conditions, and stress management can help with many of these, including:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive complaints
  • Skin problems including psoriasis and eczema
  • Insomnia
  • Weight management issues
  • Tension and backaches

You should of course consult your GP if you have any ongoing health concerns.

When I started to see Jan I had constant back pain and an extremely stressful work situation, and she immediately gave me effective ways to lessen my stress, making a real difference very quickly. She also taught me to look at the root causes of my stress, and enabled me to start to change my behaviour and reduce the risk of falling into the same stress-traps again. I now feel that I have quite a few weapons in my armoury in the battle against the stresses and strains inherent in society today.

Jan has an amazing ability to get to the root of why you are feeling stressed and then sympathetically and practically helps you to identify solutions. Since our sessions I have felt that I have been able to control my stress levels rather than the stress levels controlling me!
